Red lead is a Waterford delicacy that the rest of Ireland needs to know about

“A blaa with a slice of red lead, please.”

WATERFORD IS THE home of blaas and John Mullane, but it is also home to another culinary institution.

We are, of course, talking about red lead.

And the rest of the country needs to know about it.

What is red lead, you ask?  It’s essentially luncheon meat that has a vivid pink hue.

Sure, the colour might be a little much for some…

SO MUCH PINK.

But trust us — a blaa served with butter and red lead is divine

Want to know what the best lunch ever is? A blaa with luncheon and Tayto served with a strong cup of tea.

Eat your heart out, Neven Maguire.

Plus, it’s far superior to Billy Roll

And pretty much the ultimate school lunch when you were growing up.

It’s so delicious that it’s even inspired birthday cakes.

A Country Style Red Lead birthday cake. Surely the most Waterford thing ever, right?

In short, nothing says “Waterford” quite like a few slices of red lead
